The social care sector will continue to access emergency PPE through the NHS NSS Triage system and through the Local PPE Hubs. The Scottish Government has entered into an agreement with HSCPs and other partner agencies, including provider representatives. This latest agreement will apply up to the end of September and takes the form of a Memorandum of Understanding. In an accompanying letter, the SG advises that it is looking at the merits of extending the role of the Local PPE Hubs to assist more generally with the free supply of COVID-19 related PPE.
In addition, the Scottish Government has also issued additional guidance on the use of face masks in care homes and in care at home / housing support settings here. This additional guidance clarifies that residents in care homes will be able to choose whether or not to wear face masks in their own rooms and in communal areas and that supported people in their own homes can choose whether or not to use face masks when they are being cared for.
