Housing Support and the Real Living Wage

The Scottish Government has announced a 2.2% uplift in the hourly rate for social care – taking the Real Living Wage from £9.30 to £9.50 per hour.  In the past there has been confusion as to whether housing support services commissioned by Local Authorities rather than by Health and Social Care Partnerships were included in nationally agreed uplifts.  This time around there is specific mention of ‘non delegated housing support services’ in the joint SG and COSLA letter announcing the uplift and as such the expectation is that housing support providers will be offered an uplift to enable their staff to be paid the new rate.  For those housing support services that are commissioned by HSCPS the expectation is that the contract hourly rate will be uplifted rather than simply the staffing element of the hourly rate.
