Homelessness Statistics – December 2013

Latest official homelessness statistics to December 2013, published 25 March, indicate continuing falls in recorded homelessness across Scotland. Between October and December 2013, there were 8,007 homelessness applications, 10 per cent lower than the number of applications received during the same quarter of 2012. Local authorities have identified work in taking forward the Housing Options approach to homelessness prevention as the main reason for the reductions.

At 31 December 2013, there were 9,963 households in temporary accommodation, the lowest number for five years. Of these households, less than a quarter were households with children, with just six households with children in bed and breakfast accommodation. For the first time since recording commenced in 2005, there were no breaches of the Unsuitable Temporary Accommodation Order.

The next publication of homelessness statistics is scheduled for 24 June.
