Managed Knowledge Network Steering Group
The Scottish Government is currently funding the development of a knowledge management strategy and action plan for social services. Production of this strategy is being managed jointly by IRISS and NHS Education for Scotland. The strategy outlines plans for a Social Services Managed Knowledge Network (MKN) - a virtual collection of organizations that are committed to the vision and objectives of the strategy.
The Workforce Unit is part of the steering group for this development and we have written a Memorandum of Understanding to outline our role in supporting the strategy to work and learn together to:
- Promote the uptake and use of information and knowledge to support a shared vision and values centred on transfer of knowledge into practice.
- Actively support implementation of a network strategy and work plan designed to support this common vision.
- Share information and knowledge across organisations
- Continuously improve the management of knowledge within their own organisations. This involves supporting the definition of common standards for knowledge management, and applying these standards within their own organizations.
- Facilitate education and training to improve knowledge management within their organizations

One of the outputs from the Knowledge Management Strategy for Social Services is to provide learning materials for organisations to embed knoweldge management within their own organisations. NES/IRISS have developed an integrated space focused where individuals from social services and health can:
* access exisiting resources such as journals, best practice guides, practical templates and sharing practice stories
* share resources that they have found useful with others
* connect with other interested individuals to share experiences
