CCPS calls for SCSWIS to reflect moves to personalisation

Posted on Thursday 04 November 2010

CCPS has today submitted a response to the draft regulations establishing SCSWIS's inspection and regulation functions, calling on the Scottish Government to ensure that the regulations, and the regulator, are able to adapt to developments around the personalisation of social care.

In particular, CCPS highlight the need for SCSWIS to consider the growth in the unregulated workforce, and to include independence, choice and control as aspects of personal plans.  CCPS's response also makes comments on the power of SCSWIS inspectors to view and remove information, and the proposals laid out in the regulations in relation to fees.

CCPS Director, Annie Gunner Logan said: "We feel strongly that any system for the regulation, inspection and scrutiny of care and support must keep pace with what is actually happening on the ground in order for it to retain the confidence of the bodies that are subject to its provisions: we are growing increasingly concerned that these matters are not being adequately addressed and would ask the Scottish Government and SCSWIS to develop appropriate proposals for debate and consultation as a matter of urgency."

CCPS's submission can be viewed on the consultations page of the website.
