Voluntary sector care services commended by Care Commission report

The Care Commssion yesterday published its "Making the Grade" report showing the quality of care gradings for over 10,000 care services in Scotland for the first time. The report shows that the Voluntary Sector care services for adults achieved the best results overall - with Housing Support and Care at Home services provided by the sector faring particularly well: 30% of voluntary sector housing support services and 34% of voluntary sector care at home services received "very good" or "excellent" gradings, far higher than similar services within the public or private sector.
Annie Gunner Logan, director of CCPS, welcomed the publication of the figures, which she said will enable local authorities to make better contracting decisions.
“This comprehensive report very clearly indicates that the voluntary sector is maintaining excellent standards.
“The important thing to note is that by and large voluntary sector services cost less than the public sector and only slightly more than the private sector, indicating that the voluntary sector is the epitome of best value.”
For adult services, the voluntary sector had the highest proportion of services receiving the highest level of gradings, while the private sector had the highest proportion of services receiving poorer grades.
CCPS will be highlighting the findings of this report, and continuing to promote the value and quality of care provided by the voluntary sector, within its future lobbying work with government and other appropriate stakeholders.
