Fairer Funding Petition reaches the Local Government Committee

The Fairer Funding Petition, which was submitted on behalf of STUC, SCVO, CCPS and unions Unite and Unison, reached the Public Petitions Committee in late March. The petition which calls for parity of pay and conditions for frontline workers between the voluntary and public sectors, minimum five year contracts for voluntary sector service providers and major reform of procurement practices such as competitive re-tendering, was debated by the Petitions Committee who agreed to seek responses to the issues raised, from the Scottish Government, COSLA, ADSW, and a selection of local authorities and NHS Boards. The Public Petitions Committee has now passed consideration of the petition to the Local Government Committee, which has agreed to consider it alongside two inquiries that they are already involved in, one on home care services for older people, and the other on local government finance. From CCPS’s point of view, this is a helpful bringing together of several strands of our work.(Please see link on this page for the Official Report of the Local Government Committee’s subsequent meeting in June)
