Funding cuts
Following the recent global economic downturn, and the resulting retraction of public spending across the UK, we are entering a period of funding cuts and reduction in expenditure and resources available.

Collaborative Working
Joint working and collaboration present oportunities as well as challenges for social care providers.
Pressure to merge must be balanced against a realistic assessment of the complexities and risks of the process, and most importantly what delivers better outcomes for service users.

Commissioning
Commissioning, procurement and tendering have become the key enabling processes that facilitate the involvement of the voluntary sector in the provision of publicly-funded support and care services in Scotland’s communities.

Regulation of Care
The Care Inspectorate (formerly known as SCSWIS) is the independent regulator for social care services in Scotland, and has taken on the functions previously carried out by the Care Commission, SWIA and the child protection functions of Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Education.

New Localism
The introduction of the Concordat between Scottish Government and local authorities in November 2007, and the subsequent development of Single Outcome Agreements by local authorities and their community planning partners, has added a new dimension to policy making in Scotland.
