Supporting People to deal with Welfare Reform in 2013: a course for housing support workers – May – July 2013

Welfare Reform poses many challenges for people with support needs whether they live in mainstream tenancies or supported accommodation services. Support workers will be called on to assist support people through the benefits maze as further aspects of the changes are implemented in 2013. There is, however, a fine line to be drawn between helping a person access the benefits and providing specialist benefits advice. One of the aims of this course was to help explore this distinction and identify sources of specialist advice services which support workers can help individuals access.

A series of quick reference fact sheets about Welfare Reform were also produced for the course.
