Bield provides vital support for Jenny
Jenny lived in a council property before moving to very sheltered housing, in March 2010. The sheltered housing is staffed 7 days a week and staff are on duty from 9am until 9pm. Out-with these hours, the scheme is linked to Bield’s community alarm service Bield Response24. As well as some health issues, Jenny had little social contact outwith her immediate family and struggled to get out of her flat without assistance.
THE ISSUES
The key areas to be addressed were increasing Jenny’s social contact with others, allowing independence within her surroundings in terms of her mobility issues and providing a safe and secure environment.
SUPPORT PLAN
Jenny is very happy in her home and enjoys the range of social activities held within the communal lounge at the scheme. She enjoys the weekly coffee morning, weekly musical bingo sessions and regular social afternoons organised by the staff. A recent highlight for Jenny was the official opening of the scheme in June 2010. Jenny welcomed those who attended to look round her flat including Alex Neil MSP, Minister for Housing and Communities. A picture of Jenny and Mr Neil featured in his recent parliamentary newsletter.
THE FUTURE
Support for Jenny will continue so that she maintains her indpendence far a long as possible. Regular reviews are carried out to identify any changes that may be needed to the support she uses.
