Pay rise for some social care workers from 1st April

The Scottish Government has committed to funding an increase in social care workers hourly rate by 3.3% to £9.30 (the Real Living Wage) from the 1st April.  The announcement can be viewed here.  The announcement also covers payment for sick pay due to illness or self-isolating and payment to personal assistants as well as payment of the Real Living Wage to other staff within adult care services away from the frontline.  This agreement means that workers will not have to wait until later in the year for national negotiations to be concluded as has happened in previous year.

Update 5th May:

Increasing the hourly rate for social care / housing support

Following on from the agreement to back date from 6th April 2020 the increase in hourly rate from £9.00 to £9.30, Cosla has issued guidance to assist implementation.  The guidance is located towards the end of existing guidance on commissioning during the Covid 19 pandemic.  You can access it here.
