Dundee City Council is one of five Scottish pathfinder local authorities for the Housing First model and aims to provide up to 100 Housing First tenancies in three year programme.
Housing First Dundee is an innovative programme that will work positively and proactively with those that have had difficulty in engaging with traditional housing and support services due to a variety of complex needs. It is an exciting opportunity to give participants hope and end the revolving door of homelessness. Intensive support is essential to the success of Housing First tenancies and has been co-ordinated and commissioned locally by a consortium of third sector homelessness providers, led by Transform Community Development, with tenancies provided by the Dundee City Council and its Registered Social Landlord partners.
The Housing First Dundee programme uses Better Futures as the key tool in recording and monitoring both the support provided and the outcomes achieved. It has developed into a participant management tool which allows the service and participants to directly input into their support planning. Bryan Smith, Head of Residential Services at Transform Community Development says “We have found Better Futures to be a flexible and easily adaptable tool that shows participants progression towards their goals in a easy to understand way, free of jargon. This has made the often difficult area of support planning more accessible to groups who have previously often self excluded.”
