Redistribution of the SP Grant in Wales

Statement of information / Datganiad gwybodaeth:

Early in 2008 LE Wales (an economics and policy consultancy) were commissioned by the Welsh Assembly Government to examine the feasibility of introducing a formula-based mechanism for the distribution of Supporting People funds to local authorities.

The final report and recommendations of the feasibility study has been received from LE Wales outlining a proposed way forward. The research concludes that the development of a distribution formula for Supporting People in Wales is feasible.

Recommendations proposed in a previous submission, that research based on a statistical analysis of needs and costs could commence; and agreed in principle that a source of funding should be identified by the Redistribution working group which would allow further research to commence immediately regarding the future funding of Supporting People.

Officials have sourced the necessary funding and are seeking approval from the Deputy Minister to commence work on the next phase of research.

Full information can be found on the Welsh Assembly Website.
