CCPS Conference 2001

Thursday 27th – Friday 28th September 2001
Hilton Dunblane Hydro

'Making Sense Of Community Care'

This highly successful two-day conference was organised by CCPS in collaboration with the Scottish Council Foundation and with the support of the Scottish Executive Social Work Services Inspectorate.

The event attracted over 140 delegates and contributors from the voluntary sector, local authority social work and housing departments and committees, Local Health Care Co-ops and Health Boards as well as a variety of other agencies, organisations and institutions working in the field of community care.

The event aimed to provide some 'thinking space' where delegates could consider the sheer number and complexity of initiatives relating to community care and work together to understand the connections – and the conflicts – between them.

The conference used a number of innovative techniques, including the latest digital voting technology which enabled delegates to give quick-response reactions to a range of radical proposals for future action.

As well as this technique, the conference also benefited from the services of Don Braisby, an 'information architect', who produced a wallchart as a graphic recording of all the discussions that took place in both plenary and workshop sessions.

You can browse the wallchart by clicking on this image:

Meanwhile here are some of the comments that delegates made about the conference:

"Friendliness, sharing information and the will to improve came across loud and clear"
(Home Care Association senior staff)

"It made us 'think out of the box' – excellent"
(Local authority social work department senior manager)

"The most useful part? The perspective of keynote speakers, the chance to look ahead and to be heartened that values are still vital. The most enjoyable part? The chance to take time to really talk to colleagues. The conference had an immediate positive atmosphere – a genuinely thought-provoking, interesting and FUN conference – good vibes! Thanks"
(Voluntary sector care provider senior manager)

"In my experience there have been very few conferences (and I have been to many) that have been so refreshing and stimulating – but managed to present and seriously debate topics of major significance. A hard act to follow!"
(Health Board Manager)

"The structure of the conference was very well thought out – the first conference I have attended where I didn't feel the urge to leave early!"
(Local Health Care Co-op staff)
