CCPS & Glasgow Social Care Providers ForumFire Safety SeminarFriday 23 January 2009The Lighthouse, 11 Mitchell Lane, Glasgow G1 3NU.Since 2006, fire safety inspections in social care services have been the responsibility of the Fire and Rescue Service. Since then, providers of social care services have expressed a need for support around practical issues in relation to fire safety and what they should expect from a fire safety inspection. Speakers at this event will cover technical issues, such as appropriate equipment and risk assessment, and provide clarification and guidance around social care providers' obligations in relation to fire safety. It is hoped that the event will not only ensure that providers are well informed, but will also facilitate a greater mutual understanding between providers and the Fire and Rescue Service, of the sensitivities around inspecting social care services. A full Programme and Booking Form for the day will be available in due course. In the meantime please keep Friday 23 January 2009 free. CCPS Conference 2006The CCPS Conference 2006, which took place in late November at the Dunblane Hydro, was an extremely successful event (even if we say so ourselves). The conference was the platform for CCPS to launch its report on Changing Lives and public service reform, Ready Willing and Able, which has now been distributed to all members. The report makes a number of recommendations regarding priorities for reform, radically changing the commissioning process and organising the ‘market’ for social care more fairly. At the conference, key figures – including David Crawford, President of ADSW; Rory Mair, Chief Executive of COSLA; and Val Cox, Head of Social Care Policy at the Scottish Executive – were given the opportunity to comment on the report, and over the two days, the themes were examined in detail in a series of plenary sessions and small group discussions. The report can be downloaded here, and the summary of key messages is available here.
