The Independent Care Review has been commissioned by the Scottish Government to examine the underpinning legislation, practices, culture and ethos of the care system in Scotland. In Scotland, an estimated 27 per cent of prisoners have been in care and children in care who have a parent in prison face added barriers to maintain contact with their imprisoned parent.
In December 2017, CJVSF and the National Prison Visitor Centre Steering Group held a joint roundtable discussion with Fiona Duncan, the Chair of the Independent Care Review and Liz Brabender from the Review`s secretariat team. This provided an opportunity to hear more about the Care Review and for participants to feed in their views, based on their experiences of working with care experienced young people.
