Lisa Pattoni is the new Information and Communications Officer at the Workforce Unit.
Lisa was previously employed as Communications Coordinator at ENABLE Scotland. Her main responsibilities included communicating ideas, strategies and polices to internal staff and member audiences.

On 1st June 2009, Jackie Baillie MSP, launched the research report "A Gathering storm? Procurement, Re-tendering and the voluntary sector social care workforce".
The report was commissioned by the Workforce Unit and was undertaken by the Scottish Centre for Employment Research, University of Strathclyde.

Recent research commissioned by the Voluntary Sector Social Services Workforce Unit highlights an underlying confusion about the Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations 2006 (known as “TUPE”) and how the regulations apply in practice.
In conjunction with Maclay Murray & Spens LLP, the Housing Support Enabling Unit and Voluntary Sector Social Services Workforce Unit have developed a day course to equip you with the essential information you need to know about TUPE.
Jane Fraser, who heads up the employment team at Maclay Murray & Spens LLP and has considerable experience in all aspects of TUPE will lead the training. The course will be split into two sessions. Throughout 2009, SCVO and the Scottish Government have been working with key third sector organisations to develop the new framework for a Scottish third sector skills strategy. This aims to help third sector organisations do their bit to create a successful economy. Alongside this, a Third Sector Skills Body has been created in England and links are being established to ensure co-ordination across the UK.
The event will be an opportunity to come along and discuss how these new arrangements and recent developments in skills could help your organisation to be as effective as possible.

The Scottish Institute for Residential Child Care (SIRCC) national conference is relevant to all who have any professional connection and interest in residential child care. Field workers, external managers and trainers are particularly welcome this year to join residential workers as they look at partnership working.

The Social Work CPD team at University of Stirling is running a number of new courses in 2009. A 30 credit module in Leadership and Management for Team Leaders/ First Line Managers in Social Services will be running in autumn.
This course can be combined with a second module in Supervision, Managing or Mentoring, leading to a certificate in Management for Team Leaders which is recognised by the SSSC as a relevant qualification for registered managers. To help applicants fill in their registration forms, some of the staff from SSSC registry team have put together a short film. SSSC are also now offering a new online service for SSSC registrants. Through the secure online service, registrants can now view their personal details, registration status and any conditions of their registration. The Future Jobs Fund was recently launched by The Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) and we have a chance to influence how it will operate in Scotland.
SCVO is coordinating a Scottish Third Sector consortium to help the sector to work together and to bid for a share of the Fund. Over 70 organisations have joined so far. Find out more about what this could mean for your organisation here.
The first information bulletin about the creation of the two new scrutiny bodies due to start in April 2011, has been published by the Scottish Government.
The project team will publish the bulletins every six weeks. These will then be distributed to those with an interest in health and social care. You can subscribe to receive the bulletin via the Scottish Government email alert system.
Nineteen finalists have been announced for the Care Accolades 2009, the prestigious awards for the social service workforce in Scotland. This year's winner will be announced at the awards ceremony and event on 5 June at The Caird Hall, Dundee.
The only voluntary organisation finalist was Cornerstone Community Care Forensic Services in Aberdeen, under the category of "Best social service team or unit in Scotland". For more on the Care Accolades 2009, go to: www.sssc.uk.com.
In response to a recent conference entitled "Moving out: Moving on - But where to?" ARC Scotland is setting up a Scottish Transitions Forum.
This transitions Forum is targeted at lead officers for transitions both in the statutory and voluntary sectors in Scotland. The Forum aims to help exchange good practice, look at policy development, help people acquire new skills and help people find solutions to local problems.

The BIG Lottery fund has launched a new Fund inspired by the television programme The Secret Millionaire. People can apply, or nominate projects to apply for grants of between £300 and £10000 from the Secret Millionaire Fund. Click here for more information.
The Graduate Certificate Practice Learning Qualification (Social Services) course is currently looking for representatives from the voluntary sector to join the Course Management Team. The Team meets twice a year in March and October.

Connect in care is a network for staff and students involved in caring for older people wherever that care takes place (e.g. care homes, hospitals, community and hospice settings).
